Bowie County, TX — November 21, 2025, James Holder was killed as the result of a dual 18-wheeler accident at round 2:20 a.m. along I-30.
According to initial details about the accident, it happened west of New Boston along eastbound lanes of the interstate, near US 82.
Investigators said that 58-year-old James Earl Holder of North Carolina was in the sleeper berth of an 18-wheeler going along the interstate. The driver was going along I-30 when they apparently swerved to avoid a slower vehicle, resulting in a collision with another semi-trailer. This caused those two 18-wheelers to crash off-road.
As a result of the accident, James Holder was killed. Other injuries weren’t confirmed. At this time, additionla details surrounding the accident are unavailable.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
People are sometimes surprised to hear that I’ve handled a lot of truck accident cases where the victim was actually the one inside the 18-wheeler. There’s this assumption that those people have trucking companies looking out for them. Unfortunately, a lot of families learn that’s not really true.
After a serious truck wreck, trucking companies have one priority: avoid responsibility. Insurance companies are the same. And with authorities often prioritizing looking for someone to blame, that can leave families in a position where no one is looking out for their needs unless they directly seek out allies who can ask the right questions.
Why was this other vehicle moving slowly? Was the victim put in a truck that wasn’t maintained properly? Did if have issues with its brakes or other mechanical issues? Was their driver well-rested and paying attention? Was this accident at all avoidable? Were there other extenuating circumstances that set these events in motion? Did authorities pull data from all the vehicles, secure phone records, and record all witness testimony? Have the vehicles been secured and kept isolated so they can be properly inspected by an accident reconstructionist?
Sometimes, authorities are able to dedicate the time and effort needed to answer these questions. Too often, though, families are left in the dark wondering who’s going to fill in the blanks. What I’ve said a million times and will a million times more is this: Those who take steps early to ensure someone is gathering and preserving evidence are the ones who are most likely to get the answers and the resolution they deserve. That’s as true for a fender bender as it is for a multi-vehicle commercial truck wreck. I don’t see any reason right now why this accident would be the exception.
