Edinburg, TX — November 26, 2023, Jaidy Alcala and one other teen were killed and two were injured in a UTV accident around 6:50 p.m. along Rio Grande Care Rd.

According to reports, 18-year-old Jaidy Alcala along with three other teenaged girls were riding in a UTV in the vicinity of the 6400 block of Rio Grande Care Road when the accident occurred.

The UTV was allegedly traveling along a levee when it overturned into a canal, becoming submerged. Two of the four girls—Alcala and a 17-year-old—were trapped in the vehicle and died as a result. The two other teenaged girls—one age 12 and the other age 15—were able to escape and retrieve assistance from a nearby residence. They were transported to a local medical center for treatment of injuries incurred during the accident and are now reportedly recovering in their homes.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by local authorities. There are not any additional details available pertaining to this incident at this point in time.
