Ellis County, TX — March 6, 2024, Jacob Murphy was killed as the result of a motorcycle accident along F.M. 983.
According to officials, the incident happened near the intersection of F.M. 983 and F.M. 813 near Pecan Hill south of Dallas. Due to inconsistencies in current public information, it’s unclear if the crash happened during the day or overnight.

Investigators said that 30-year-old Jacob Layne Murphy was on a Kawasaki motorcycle traveling southbound on F.M. 983. The motorcycle somehow lost control, causing it to run off-road. There, the motorcycle hit a sign, and Murphy was thrown from the bike. Murphy died as a result of the accident. No further information can be confirmed right now.

The lack of clarity about the time of the crash might seem like little more than a simple mistake. That could be true, but sometimes it’s a sign the accident investigations were handled poorly. Frankly, I get calls constantly about single-vehicle wrecks from families who feel unsatisfied with the answers (or lack of answers) they received from authorities.
It’s one of the reasons independent investigations are often far more productive and able to rule out all kinds of potential factors authorities tend to overlook. Those factors can range from mechanical issues to roadway flaws to victims being illegally over-served by a bar to medical conditions. At the end of the day, the evidence needs to speak for itself. And if authorities can’t be bothered to communicate that evidence accurately, it’s no wonder people might feel like they may not be getting the answers they deserve.
