Hempstead, TX — February 11, 2022, Jacob Kessler was killed following an accident where he fell on a work site along Mellman Road.
Investigators said that the incident happened at around 8:30 a.m. at 28943 Mellman Road, which is an area located several miles northeast of town between FM 2979 and FM 1736.

According to statements from an OSHA accident summary, 21-year-old Jacob Kessler was apparently sitting on a cargo box on the rear portion of a Polaris Ranger that was being driven by a co-worker. When going over a bump, the vehicle apparently accelerated suddenly, throwing off Kessler. Kessler sustained a head injury and died several days following the incident. No one else was said to be hurt.
Right now, additional details about accident remain unclear. OSHA statements show at least two listed standards violations, both labeled as “serious.” The report also lists a current penalty of $8,702, though it’s unclear what the status of those penalties is at this time. No further information can be confirmed.
