Authorities allege that the teen driver was under the influence of alcohol. If that’s true—meaning that it is proven by evidence—where did the alcohol come from? There are obviously many ways someone can get their hands on alcohol when they’re not supposed to, such as from an older friend or family member. But the real concern is the possibility a local establishment sold the alcohol to the teen.

Some establishments out there are either too lazy to card customers or are unscrupulous enough to knowingly serve underage customers, and those types of establishments are a danger to the community. I’ve handled hundreds of cases against negligent alcohol providers involved in serious accidents. The ones who serve underage customers typically are breaking all kinds of laws and regulations. It’s important to see them held accountable for their role in a serious accident, but so is getting them to clean up their act before more people get hurt .
