Matagorda County, TX — July 19, 2024, Israel Garcia was killed as the result of a car accident at around 10:16 p.m. along 1st Street.
According to initial details about the accident, it happened in the area of the 1st Street and East Craymer Avenue.
Investigators said that 68-year-old Israel Garcia was on a bicycle at the time. Israel Garcia was going northbound at the time when a Mitsubishi, also going northbound, struck the bicycle. Israel Garcia reportedly was killed as a result.
The driver reportedly remained at the scene. No further information is available at this time.

I have to wonder if this accident ever got the attention it deserved. Frankly, a lot of people jump to conclusions when it comes to bicyclists. This can lead to shallow or incomplete investigations. It’s possible a closer look would show authorities were thorough here, but it may otherwise show that there were important details that never got any attention. At the end of the day, what’s it important is knowing the victim’s loved ones got the answers they need.
