As a result of the collision, Iris Rodriguez sustained fatal injuries. Two people from the Honda and two people from the Ford reportedly had injuries which weren’t considered life-threatening. Right now, authorities allege that the Ford driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash and would be charged for intoxication manslaughter.

If allegations here are true, it’s not clear if drugs or alcohol contributed to this event. The odds suggest alcohol is the most likely culprit. It’s important to make that distinction because there could have been an accomplice here that contributed to a woman’s death: an alcohol provider.
This happened on Super Bowl Sunday, and that means a lot of people are going out to local establishments to drink (or to buy alcohol to take somewhere) and have fun watching the game. Unfortunately, a lot of folks go beyond their limits and put lives in danger. Alcohol providers are often all too willing to break laws and help those customers put lives at risk so they take advantage of the extra patronage.
For example, we handled a case a while back involving an establishment that advertised itself as a good place to come catch the game. One night, some folks went there to watch football. I can’t give too many specifics about the incident, but what I can say is that by the end of the night, a 14-year-old girl had been served well beyond the legal limit.
That’s one the more shocking examples of a negligent alcohol provider breaking the rules for selfish reasons, but it’s just one example of many. There are establishments out there who don’t really care if they’re putting lives at risk so long as they think they can get away with it. The busier an establishment is, the more opportunity they have to make an irresponsible decision that gets someone hurt or killed. Few days are busier than this past Sunday likely was for many local establishments. If one such establishment had a hand in taking a woman’s life, it wouldn’t be right for them to ride off into the sunset when there are tools available to see they’re held accountable.
