Illinois Man Injured in Truck Accident on I-30 in Bowie County, TX

Investigators said that a 40-year-old Addison, Illinois, man was in a Dodge truck with two other vehicles in tow. While traveling along eastbound I-30, it appears the truck lost control as the driver tried to avoid an object in the road. As a result, the truck traveled onto the median and down an embankment. In the process, the vehicles came detached from the truck, and one of them slammed into the Illinois man’s truck.

As a result of the crash, the Illinois man sustained reportedly serious injuries. There did not appear to be anyone else involved in the accident. Right now, no further information can be confirmed.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

One thing I’d be curious about is if authorities were careful to investigate the victim’s vehicle, the vehicles that were in tow, and the equipment used to haul the vehicles. Let me explain why.

Something that often slips through the cracks is that towing equipment can sometimes be in a state of disrepair or defective such that it fails when it shouldn’t. For example, thorough accident reconstructionists would likely investigate if the victim’s injuries here were the result of the crash itself or something preventable that went wrong with the towed cargo. Did authorities look into that here? If not, there could still be more to this story.
