With single-vehicle wrecks, I’ve learned to take preliminary details with a grain of salt. Authorities aren’t always motivated to consider all possible factors, as they assume that something more straight-forward must have occurred. But it’s important for investigators to ask all kinds of questions. Did a tire blowout? Were there road hazards? Was the driver unlawfully over-served by a bar? Did they experience a medical emergency? Is this a notoriously dangerous stretch of road? Likely or not, these crashes aren’t always about inattentive or speeding drivers. There could be more to the story than authorities alone are willing to explain to the victims and families involved. That’s when alternative avenues to getting answers become crucial to consider.
