Laredo, TX — November 15, 2024, Hugo Antonio Martinez was killed as the result of a work accident at around 11:27 a.m. along San Gabriel Drive.
According to initial details about the accident, it happened between Mines Road and I-35 on the north side of town.
An OSHA investigation summary says that 27-year-old Hugo Antonio Martinez was on the roof of a warehouse at the time. For reasons unclear, Hugo Antonio Martinez fell through a skylight, ultimately resulting in fatal injuries.
The OSHA statement listed two alleged “serious” violation citations and a recommended penalty. No other details about the accident are available at this time.

With any fatal work accident, people often think OSHA does their thing, families are guaranteed a resolution, and that’s that. In reality, OSHA is often just the tip of the iceberg, and there isn’t always a guaranteed path toward a resolution.
Texas has the most complex work fatality laws of any other state in the country.
