Authorities mentioned in their statements that alcohol may have been a factor here. But with head trauma, it’s important to consider the possibility authorities may only be telling one side of the story. Someone with a head injury usually isn’t in a clear state of mind to speak to authorities at the scene, and sometimes they’re taken to the hospital before authorities can investigate. As such, they may speculate about the facts, and if they don’t follow up on that speculation, it can lead to misleading preliminary reports.
Whether or not authorities were able to get the victim’s side of the story here isn’t clear right now, but hopefully they were more thorough than these current statements suggest.
