Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

People tend to assume rear-end collisions like this are open-and-shut. While they’re the result of things like speeding or distracted driving, nothing is “simple” when victims and families need as much evidence as possible to tell the story.

A crash can involve anything from cell phone usage to faulty brakes to road hazards to medical conditions to drunk driving. There can be drastically different legal implications depending on these factors, so just jumping to conclusions without letting the evidence speak for itself is only going to create additional hurdles for victims and families who are seeking a fair resolution.

That’s why I’ve never looked at accidents like this as “simple”. They need as thorough an investigation as a complex, multi-vehicle 18-wheeler accident. That prudent approach has often been the difference between families getting the help they needed and families being left in the wind to fend for themselves. Whether or not that sort of prudence ever happened here remains to be seen.
