How Did This Accident Occur?
Without knowing more details, it might be tempting for folks to assume that head-on car accidents are a result of driver error. That is certainly a distinct possibility; however, I’m not so eager to settle on that conclusion. Over the last thirty years, I’ve seen plenty of similar cases in which evidence of less likely causes ended up being unearthed through thorough investigation.
To be clear, I’m not trying to imply that I know more about this specific accident than anyone else outside of the investigation does. As far as I am aware, driver error—whether it was due to distraction, fatigue, impairment, or something else altogether—remains on the table as a possible cause. However, I would like to point out that, hypothetically, the accident could have been caused by something gone wrong with one of the vehicles rather than driver error. Did the two vehicles end up on a collision course because of a steering mechanism problem, for example? Or maybe tire failure played a role? It’s true, these things are not very likely, but neither are they impossible.
Hopefully investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—get in-depth inspections done on the involved vehicles. That way any mechanical malfunctions or product defects that had a hand in the wreck will not be allowed to fly unnoticed under the radar. After all, the people affected by this accident deserve to be given more than the vague assumptions that result from surface-level investigation.
