Something stands out to me here, and I wonder if it’s something authorities ever dug into. Generally speaking, with two people riding in the same car, they’ll generally fare similarly in a crash. The fact one person was apparently fine here while the other was seriously injured raises a red flag. Why did this happen? Was it just a quirk of how the vehicle was angled, or was there a defect that led to the injuries?
Authorities overlook possible vehicle defects far too often. If, for example, someone’s airbag or seatbelt fails to function, but their passenger’s works fine, they could end up with serious injuries that could have been avoided. Bringing this stuff to light is not only important for those affected but also to help fix any problems so others aren’t harmed in the future.
Maybe nothing like that happened here, or maybe authorities took the time to look into these possibilities already. In my experience, though, it’s best not to take that sort of thing for granted. The evidence should have the last say, and it’s not clear right now if authorities ever provided more of that behind the scenes than what they released publicly.
