Fort Bend County, TX — December 8, 2022, Gloria Patricia Lopez and a passenger were injured in an alleged hit-and-run accident at 8:50 a.m. on F.M. 1093 in Fort Bend County.

Officials say Ms. Lopez’s 2021 Toyota Camry was westbound on F.M. 1093 when a southbound Honda Pilot allegedly failed to stop at a red light and struck the passenger side door of the Camry. The Honda Pilot then reportedly fled the crash scene.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Both occupants in the Camry were transported to a hospital with purportedly serious injuries. However, my attention is drawn to the report that both Ms. Gloria Lopez and her passenger suffered the same level of injuries. The speed limit on F.M. 1093 is 45 mph, so unless I am missing some crucial details, it seems to me that a 2021 model would be able to protect its occupants from incapacitating injuries when the impact is on the opposite side from the occupant.

Why would the driver suffer the same severity of injuries as a person sitting in the exact spot where the collision occurred? The only way to determine if there is any possible defect in the Camry’s design, manufacturing, or maintenance, the vehicle will need careful examination.
