How Did This Accident Occur?
When it comes to accidents that take place in intersections, most people are quick to assume that driver error is to blame. I’m not so quick to jump to that conclusion, though. Why? Because in the last thirty years, I’ve seen plenty of similar cases in which evidence of less likely causes ended up being unearthed by the investigation.
That’s not to imply that I know more about this accident than anyone else outside of the investigation, by the way. I simply want to point out that, hypothetically, the accident could have been caused by something other than driver error. A quick Google Maps search will show you the intersection is controlled by a traffic signal. What if the light malfunctioned and gave contradicting signals to the different drivers? Traffic signals are excellent tools, but they are not infallible.
Hopefully the authorities are being as thorough and openminded as they should be as they look into this wreck. If their investigation seems to be shortsighted, then a third party investigation can always be brought in to take a look at things, as well. It never hurts to have a second perspective go over things and ensure that nothing important falls through the cracks.
In the end, the people affected by this accident deserve real answers backed by solid evidence. Vague assumptions based on surface-level investigation just won’t cut it.
