Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When it comes to a rollover crash like this, people tend to jump to the conclusion that the driver must have done something wrong. That’s certainly possible, given how common things like fatigue, distraction, and speeding are. But there could be more complex factors to consider.
Was this a tire blowout related to poor maintenance? Did the vehicle have some sort of defect? Did it hit something in the road? Did the driver experience a medical emergency? Was there something going on inside the vehicle? Did some other reckless driver force the bus off-road, then leave the scene?
Common or not, these things happen, and they need to be thoroughly investigated. The evidence can either rule out these possibilities, or it can reveal what preliminary investigations may have been too shallow to catch. Only then can those affected by this accident feel confident they’re getting the whole story.
