People tend to think that crashes like this are simple for investigators since there’s only one vehicle involved. However, single-vehicle accidents are a type of crash I get just about the most calls about. The reality is authorities don’t often see them as a high priority, and it can lead them to overlook important details.
For example, I handled a case not long ago where authorities missed a major vehicle defect because they were too quick to move on to other responsibilities. They found the victim in that accident out of their seat, so they assumed the victim hadn’t been wearing their seatbelt. The family was very skeptical of that and sought out a second opinion. Through independent investigations, we found out that the victim’s seatbelt was defective, causing it to fail when the crash occurred.
What authorities had simply written off ended up being someone seriously hurt due to problems the victim didn’t even know about. Unfortunately, it’s more common for authorities to overlook something than anyone would like. That’s not always true, of course. Independent investigations into this crash, for example, might only show that auditoriums already know all there is to know. But if it otherwise showed there was more to this situation they happened to miss, it would be far from the first time.
