Accident Report
Barrington Hills, IL — March 26, 2026, four people were injured in a dump truck accident at about 11 a.m. in the 300 block of Algonquin Road/State Route 62.
Authorities said a 2000 Peterbilt dump truck was heading north on Old Sutton Road when it collided with an eastbound 2010 Ford work truck, forcing the other vehicle to crash head-on with a westbound 2011 Honda Pilot while the dump truck overturned and spilled its load of gravel.
Four people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injures after the crash, according to authorities. It is not clear which vehicles they were in.
The dump truck driver, who was treated at the scene of the crash, is expected to be cited for his role in the crash, authorities said.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Cook County crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Initial reports indicate authorities are ready to point the finger at the dump truck driver for causing this crash, but it still isn’t clear why. Did the dump truck run a stop sign? If so, was the driver inattentive or did the truck have a mechanical issue that affected its brakes?
Investigators should consider these questions, as well as the possibility that the first officers on the scene got their initial impressions wrong. That doesn’t happen often, but it does happen.
A thorough investigation will piece together how this crash unfolded, based on witness statements, evidence from the scene, data from the vehicles and any available traffic or dashcam footage. The facts from the investigation are much more reliable than any assumptions made at the scene.
