When it comes to single-vehicle wrecks, authorities aren’t always as thorough as folks would expect. They’re not often seen as a high priority, so things might slip through the cracks as officers move on to other projects. In fact, some folks have come to me over the years feeling like authorities were just looking for someone to blame rather than focusing on telling a fair account of what really happened. At the end of the day, that requires clear evidence, and getting evidence usually takes thorough investigations from experienced, well-equipped accident reconstructionists. Authorities are sometimes prudent enough to see that happens after an accident like this, but many end seeking out independent investigators who can pick up where authorities fell short. It wouldn’t be too unusual if this turned out to be one of those situations.
