Gregg County, TX — March 30, 2024, Felistas Gomez was killed and one person was injured as the result of a car accident at around 4:15 a.m. along I-20.
According to information from authorities, the crash happened on westbound lanes of the interstate north of Kilgore.

Investigators said that 42-year-old Felistas Gomez was in a Cadillac CT4 with a 42-year-old man riding as a passenger. The vehicle somehow ran off the right side of the road where went through the ditch, hit a tree line, and overturned. As a result, Gomez sustained fatal injuries. The passenger had apparently serious injuries.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
The cause of the crash remains unconfirmed, though authorities mentioned fatigue as a possibility. When I see that, I always wonder if they have a reason to suspect that other than just assuming it’s a likely explanation. It might surprise people to know how often authorities just jump to conclusions rather than actually looking at the evidence. Naturally, this leads to families left with more questions than answers.
Not long ago, for example, a family called us because authorities blamed their loved one for not wearing a seatbelt, leading to fatal injuries. They knew, though, that their loved one was incredibly safety conscious and always wore their seatbelt. Well, a more thorough independent accident reconstruction revealed that the victim’s seatbelt was defective. They wore it properly, but it failed for reasons beyond their control.
I’m not saying something unusual like that happened here. It’s just that too many people end up empty handed after a serious crash because they thought relying on the authorities would get them the answers they deserve. In reality, taking steps to ensure there are independent investigations is sometimes the only way to make sure nothing important slips through the cracks.
