One key detail I haven’t seen mentioned in the news is who had the right-of-way when the crash happened. Some reports say that the woman “turned left into the path of” the truck. But images of the intersection I can find clearly show the crossing is controlled by traffic signals. It’s possible, then, for drivers to have a protected left turn. Is it possible the victim just failed to yield? Of course, but I’ve also handled situations where it wasn’t clear that the victim did nothing wrong until after far more thorough investigations. That’s why I at least encourage people to avoid jumping to conclusions until they’re sure they’re getting all the facts.
