Nassau County, FL — February 23, 2023, a truck driver died in a single-vehicle semi-truck accident on Interstate 95 in Nassau County.
Authorities said that the incident happened at around 4:20 p.m. near the weigh station at mile marker 378. The cause of the crash remains unclear. It appears a semi-truck traveling northbound along I-95 somehow lost control and ran off-road. After leaving the travel lanes, the truck collided with a tree and then caught fire.
The truck’s driver, not identified at this time, was fatally injured in the wreck. No other vehicles or injuries were reported.
No further information is available at this time.

It’s obvious investigators need to look into why this crash happened. But something they may overlook is whether or not the crash even needed to be fatal to begin with. Anytime I see a commercial truck catch fire, I can’t help wondering if investigators are looking into the possibility of a defect that many trucks have concerning where the manufacturer placed the fuel tanks. It’s entirely possible the fire here was a reasonable result of the crash due to its severity. But with a victim’s family out there in need of answers, it’s worth considering any possibility that could shed light on what led to this awful event.
