Torrance County, NM — June 4, 2023, one person was killed and one was injured following a semi-truck accident along Interstate 40.
Initial details about the fatal crash were provided by the Torrance County Sheriff’s Office. Their statements said the crash took place along westbound lanes of I-40 just east of U.S. Highway 285.
According to investigators, a semi-truck was going along westbound lanes of the interstate approaching two vehicles ahead, one of which was a semi, that were reportedly stopped. The first semi apparently did not slow down and crashed into the back of the rear vehicle, pushing it into the other semi.
As a result of the collision, a passenger in the vehicle hit by the semi sustained fatal injuries. The driver reportedly had to be flown to a hospital for treatment. There are no details about other potential injuries. Right now, authorities have released no information concerning possible charges, nor have they said what the exact cause of the crash was.
