Dallas, TX — December 8, 2023, a man was killed and woman was injured due to an alleged intoxicated driver accident at 7:00 p.m. along University Hills.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the crash occurred in the area of the University Hills Boulevard and East Red Bird Lane.

At this time, information suggests that a vehicle with two occupants was going southbound on University Hills at the time. That vehicle slowed and was attempting to make a left turn into a shopping center when reports say an oncoming vehicle crashed into them. Due to this, the man in the southbound vehicle was killed. A woman in that vehicle was taken to a hospital in what was called critical condition.
Authorities allege that the other driver, also critically injured, was intoxicated at the time of the collision. There appear to be pending charges of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.

Frankly, it’s not all that common to see intoxicated driving this early in the evening. But Friday evenings tend to have a higher risk than most weekdays, and it may not surprise people to learn this sort of thing can happen at all times of the day.
I actually had a case not long ago where we sued a bar that contributed to a drunk driving crash just a couple of hours after a typical work day. In that situation, a man clocked out for the evening and went out drinking with his co-workers. There was a happy hour going on, and the establishment illegally served the man to the point he could barely walk, let alone drive. Not long after arriving, the man stumbled out to his car, drove off, and ended up going into oncoming traffic where he hit a family’s car and seriously injured their young son.
When folks think of intoxicated driving, they assume it always happens closer to midnight when people are out at bars. It is true intoxicated driving is more common during those hours, but not only could intoxication be the result of drugs, there are businesses serving alcohol as early as 9:00 a.m. We can unfortunately expect to see this sort of crash at just about any time of day. If the allegations here prove to be true, this would be yet another example of that fact.
