UPDATE (April 27, 2023): Authorities released information identifying the two men killed in the accident. They were identified as 21-year-old Fabian Correa and 20-year-old Gabriel Adonay Baeza. No one else was reportedly hurt in the accident. Details did confirm that authorities looked into the possibility that the 18-wheeler failed to yield and caused the deadly wreck. Houston, TX — March 31, 2023, two people were killed as the result of an 18-wheeler accident on Beaumont Highway near Oats.
Initial details provided by the Houston Police Department said that the crash happened at 10:30 p.m. It appears two men were in an SUV traveling along the highway. Ahead, an 18-wheeler pulled out onto the highway, and the SUV crashed underneath the side of the trailer.

Both men in the SUV died as a result of the crash. Their identities have not yet been released. Additional details surrounding the crash are unavailable at this time.

Just to be clear, I don’t know anything more about this crash than what’s currently in the news. But when I see these details, I can’t help wondering why the truck driver thought it was clear to make such a risky maneuver. Whether or not there’s a reasonable explanation, what else happened here that authorities haven’t told the public?
