Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Are authorities at all looking into the possibility something unusual the driver couldn’t avoid led to this crash? I’m used to seeing crashes like this late at night or early in the morning when things like fatigue and intoxicated driving are common. In the middle of the afternoon, I would expect authorities to mention something like a tire blowout, distracted driving, or taking a turn too fast. They haven’t said anything like that here. While not all that common, it brings up the possibility some kind of defect caused the vehicle to unexpectedly lose control. Frankly, that’s not the sort of thing authorities typically have the training or tools to look into. It makes me wonder if there’s a lot more to this story that may not be getting the attention it deserves.
