Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

I certainly don’t know anything specific about this wreck beyond what’s in the news, and even that should be taken with a grain of salt until more facts are clear. But anytime I see a commercial vehicle rollover, I can’t help wondering whether or not the victims would have been better off in a different truck.

I say this because there’s a little-discussed issue in trucking where manufacturers don’t build their vehicles with any intention of ensuring the cabin is sturdy enough to reasonably protect the occupants in the case of a rollover. Some rollovers are serious enough that even safe trucks cave in, but others turn out to be deadly despite the severity of the rollover being relatively minor.

Maybe nothing like that will apply here, but it’s one of many factors I hope authorities are giving attention to so they can ensure the victim’s loved ones get clear answers.
