Johnson County, TX — February 20, 2024, Eric Elliott was injured following a truck accident just before 4:45 p.m. along U.S. Highway 67.
According to authorities, 51-year-old Eric Elliott was traveling in a northbound Chevrolet Trax on County Road 414 at the U.S. Highway 67 intersection when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, an eastbound 18-wheeler with a trailer in tow on U.S. 67 failed to stop for the red light indicated by the traffic signal. This resulted in a collision between the front-end of the 18-wheeler and the left side of the Trax. The 18-wheeler then also struck the traffic light pole, causing it to topple to the ground. The Freightliner then overturned onto its right side, coming to rest facing east in the center median of the highway. The Trax came to a stop facing southeast between the two eastbound lanes.
Elliott incurred suspected severe injuries as a result of the accident; he was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. No other injuries have been reported. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Many people who look it this crash might think that everything investigators need to know can be found at the crash site, itself. After three decades of litigating truck accidents, however, I have come to have a profound understanding that this is not always the case. This crash, for example, raises several pressing questions. Why did the truck miss the red light? Was there a lapse in the driver’s attention, perhaps due to fatigue, or was there a mechanical failure that prevented stopping? Exploring these questions isn’t just academic; it’s essential for understanding what the actual cause of the accident was.
Investigations into similar accidents often shed light on factors that could have been prevented, such as inadequate safety protocols within trucking companies. Steps that might or might not have been taken might include regular vehicle maintenance and enforcing strict compliance with regulations regarding driver working hours.
It’s crucial to look beyond the immediate cause of the crash and delve into the operational practices of the trucking company involved. Only after putting in the effort such a thorough investigation requires can the real cause of the accident be unearthed.
