Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Something to consider after any serious car accident is whether or not investigators are handling things properly. I get calls all the time from families who feel authorities weren’t able to get them any clear answers. Single-vehicle wrecks like this make up a significant portion of those calls. Unfortunately, that’s because they aren’t always seen as a high priority, so authorities aren’t always given the time or equipment they need to consider anything beyond the most obvious possible factors, like distraction, fatigue, or speeding.

In crashes like this, there could be all kinds of extenuating circumstances to consider. Were there objects in the road? Did a tire blow out? Was the driver unlawfully over-served by an alcohol provider? Is there a lack of signage or lighting in the area? Was there another driver involved who left the scene? Simply put, these things happen, and it might surprise folks to know how often they go overlooked just because no one bothered investigating them properly. Maybe authorities here have been more thorough, but I learned long ago not to take that for granted.
