Fort Bend County, TX — June 16, 2024, Emma Rojas Castrejon and three others were injured due to an alleged drunk driver accident at 5:00 p.m. on Post Oak Boulevard.
In their initial statements, officials said that the crash happened in the area of the South Post Oak Boulevard and Trammel-Fresno Road, outside of Houston.
It appears that 66-year-old Emma Rojas Castrejon was in a Nissan Altima going through the intersection. At that time, it appears a Honda Accord disregarded the light and crashed into Castrejon’s vehicle. This then caused Castrejon’s vehicle to hit a nearby Toyota Rav4. Castrejon sustained serious injuries due to the crash. A teenager in her vehicle and two people from the Toyota had reportedly moderate injuries.

Current statements show that authorities recommended the Honda driver be charged for intoxication assault. What I’m wondering, though, is if that’s where authorities stopped their investigations. Folks may not think there would be anything else for them to look into, but a proper investigation into an accident involving a drunk driver needs to include where that driver was coming from. Oftentimes, there was a local bar or restaurant (or similar establishment) that illegally over-served them.
For example, I had a case where a drunk driver went into oncoming traffic and hit a family head-on, nearly getting a kid killed. Authorities simply charged the driver and moved on, which is why the family was confused why we wanted to know where the driver had been drinking. Through independent investigations, though, they learned why that mattered.
Long story short, evidence showed the bar that served the man recklessly continued serving him alcohol well beyond the point of reason. The guy could barely walk, to the bathroom without falling over. Despite this, servers kept pouring drink after drink. This was blatantly illegal for them to do, and it exposed them to possible charges, fines, license suspension, and liability (which, unfortunately for them, meant they had to deal with us).
Too often, I see authorities file charges after a crash like this without going any deeper into what all happened. If this crash did involve intoxicated driving, obviously that driver deserves to face appropriate consequences. But that doesn’t mean letting an accomplice off the hook for their own role in the crash. Have investigators made sure to examine the events leading up to this crash, or are the victims involved being left in the dark about what really happened?
