Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
As open-and-shut as these details seem, there could always be more to the story. It’s important investigations are always thorough to consider not just what happened but why it happened. There could be key details authorities have yet to consider.
For example, was the driver drunk coming from a local bar? Have they pulled cellphone records? Are there nearby security cameras at a residence or business that caught the incident on video? Did authorities record witness statements and take down their information so they can be contacted in the future?
Likely or not, these are the kinds of things I would expect to see from experienced accident reconstructionists. It’s only reasonable to hold authorities to a similar standard to ensure there’s fully accountability for what happened.
