The Nissan driver was allegedly three times the legal limit for drunk driving at the time of the crash. If that’s true, it frankly wouldn’t at all be surprising. When drivers are on the wrong side of the road, it usually comes to light that they were not just intoxicated but extremely intoxicated. That’s why it’s important to find out if a negligent bar or other alcohol provider contributed to the crash, as well.
While authorities unfortunately don’t give this aspect of drunk driving wrecks enough attention, many of them involve alcohol providers illegally over-serving people. Not long ago, for example, a family came to us after a drunk driver hit them head-on. We found that he’d been over-served by a bar to the point he could barely walk. Despite such an egregious violation of the law, authorities were no where to be found. Their investigations started and stopped at the drunk driver. We were the ones who had to get the ball rolling to see that bar was held accountable for actions that nearly led to a kid getting killed.
I can’t say what all happened here, of course. I also can’t say what steps authorities might be taking behind the scenes. But if their path to accountability doesn’t extend beyond the alleged drunk driver, there may be another wrongdoer they’re letting off the hook.
