Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

One of the more challenging aspects of car accidents is people don’t ever consider complex and uncommon factors. Unfortunately, that includes authorities. They rarely prioritize things like mechanical defects, for example, so things can slip through the cracks.

I recall a recent case, for example, where authorities were so focused on what the victim had been doing they failed to realize the victim’s seatbelt was defective. Had it worked properly, they likely would have been okay. Instead, they suffered serious injuries for reasons that almost went entirely unnoticed. I’m not saying that happened here, but it’s one of the reasons I’ve always taken early details from authorities with a few grains of salt.
