While no further information can be confirmed right now, authorities mentioned alcohol as a possible factor. To be clear, it’s not unusual for authorities to say that after any crash at this time of day. 2:10 a.m. on a Sunday morning is during the peak hour for drunk driving accidents as people try to go home after bars close. Frankly, it would be irresponsible if they didn’t consider alcohol.

I’ve handled hundreds of liability cases against negligent alcohol providers involved in serious drunk driving accidents, and many happened during these hours. The fact of the matter is there are far too many establishments out there that have no qualms with recklessly over-serving customers and sending them out to get themselves or someone else killed. It’s important they’re held accountable whenever that happens. Victims and families deserve to see accountability for that reckless behavior, and those establishments need to clean up their acts before more people get hurt.

Ultimately, authorities may rule out alcohol here and find there were other factors involved. If it was, though, the families deserve to know they’re getting the whole story.
