According to authorities, 25-year-old Dustin Pledger was traveling in a northwest bound Toyota Tacoma pickup truck on F.M. 1645 in the vicinity of F.M. 4054 when the accident took place.

But in my experience, those explanations are only the beginning. What looks simple on the surface can turn out to be far more complex once all the facts are known. That’s why it’s so important to ask three specific questions whenever a serious crash takes place.
First, did the authorities conduct a thorough investigation? In rural areas, particularly on farm-to-market roads, investigations can be limited by time, training, and available resources. Was the crash scene fully documented? Were roadway conditions, vehicle dynamics, and possible environmental factors analyzed? Without a detailed reconstruction, crucial pieces of the puzzle may be left out. And while most officers do the best they can under the circumstances, some aspects of an accident—like skid marks, impact angles, or mechanical faults—require a more specialized examination. That’s where independent investigators can play an essential role.
The second question is whether a defect in the vehicle may have contributed to the crash.
