Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

When it comes to motorcycle wrecks like this, one of my main concerns is that they’re not going to get the attention they deserve. Unfortunately, a lot of people are biased against motorcyclists. Even authorities can rush to judgment and overlook important details.

Typically, after a serious accident like this, there are all kinds factors to look into, common or not. Were there mechanical issues? Did a tire blowout? Was someone illegally over-served by a bar? Did a medical condition contribute to the crash? Are there issues with the road itself that contributed to the crash?

Simply put, authorities are less likely to answer these kinds of questions when a victim was on a motorcycle. It’s one of the reasons I talk about the importance of independent accident reconstructionists. Since their priority is to get as much evidence as possible and let it speak for itself, they’re more likely to set aside their bias and ensure that the those affected by the crash get clear facts rather than hasty conjecture. Hopefully steps were taken here to ensure unfair bias didn’t stand between the victim’s loved ones and the answers they deserve.
