Hempstead County, AR — July 21, 2025, a Department of Transportation worker was killed as the result of a hit-and-run accident around 1:15 a.m. on I-30W.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident happened in the area of mile marker 18 along the interstate.

It appears that a contractor was working for Arkansas DOT at the time, putting out reflectors on the roadway. While doing so, authorities say a Buick Century struck and killed the worker. The Buick driver then fled the scene on foot.
Authorities have not located the alleged runaway driver at this time. Additional details are unavailable.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
If authorities have the suspect’s vehicle, then it might just be a matter of time before authorities locate the runaway driver. Once that happens, there can be steps taken to both hold that driver accountable and find out why they left the scene in the first place. Usually, there was something specific they didn’t want authorities to know about, and that could mean further steps will be necessary to see there’s accountability here.
