Austin, TX — March 12, 2023, Donovan Diaz, Porfirio Diaz, and another were injured following a car accident on U.S. Highway 290.
Authorities said that the incident happened at around 6:00 p.m. along eastbound lanes of the highway near Patton Ranch Road. Statements from police said that 24-year-old Donovan Diaz and 50-year-old Porfirio Diaz were in a Ford F-150 traveling eastbound on the highway. From the westbound lanes, it appears a Ford Escape somehow went left of center and crashed head-on into the pickup.

The driver of the Escape was said to have incapacitating injuries while Donovan and Porfirio Diaz apparently had injuries described as non-incapacitating. Right now, authorities are looking into the possibility that the Ford Escape driver was under the influence of alcohol. They did not mention other possible factors.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
I can’t confirm anything not currently available to the public without seeing more evidence. Police sometimes bring up alcohol just because it’s a common factor in serious car accidents. But if they have evidence they believe suggests this all was alcohol related, what other steps are they taking to look into what all happened here? Drunk driving can be a lot more complex than folks realize, considering they can involve both the intoxicated drivers and any businesses that may have over-served them. Hopefully steps were taken behind the scenes to consider all of this, because letting too much time pass can be detrimental for victims and families looking for answers.
