Dallas, TX — August 28, 2024, 39-year-old Diane Bradford was killed and a teen was injured in a car accident on Garland Road in Dallas County.
Investigators say the incident occurred around 2:10 p.m. on the 10400 block of Garland Road at Easton Road. According to preliminary reports, a 19-year-old was driving a Hyundai Sonata northeast on the roadway as Bradford was traveling southwest in a Nissan Leaf. Bradford started to make a left turn with a protected arrow, but investigators say the teen, allegedly speeding, disregarded a red light and crashed into the passenger side of the turning Nissan. The impact sent the Leaf spinning off the road and it soon crashed into the front of a building.

Diane Bradford was fatally injured in the collision. The young Hyundai driver reportedly suffered serious injuries.

There’s not a lot to say here except that I hope authorities investigate this carefully and until there’s nothing left to learn. Maybe it all boils down to a young man just making a bad and costly decision to run a light, but if there’s anything else that played a part—poor sightlines, vehicle malfunctions or defects, intoxicants, road conditions—that needs to be identified as well. Knowing the whole story, painful as it may be, is always best. At the very least it can help bring some closure to people who lost a loved one, but on many occasions it uncovers details nobody expected. At the end of the day, what matters most is getting answers for people who need and deserve them. Anything beyond that depends on what those answers turn out to be.
