San Augustine County, TX — November 21, 2023, Dewey Hinote and three children were injured following an alleged intoxicated driving accident along Highway 83.
Initial details about the crash indicate it happened at approximately 9:00 a.m. in the area of the Highway 83 and F.M. 1751, west of Pineland.
According to officials, 27-year-old Dewey Hinote was behind the wheel of a Mazda pickup which was going eastbound on Highway 83. While doing so, authorities say that a westbound Chevy pickup went left of center, crashing into Hinote’s pickup.
Due to the collision, Hinote had to be flown from the scene with apparently serious injuries. There were three children involved, as well, ages 5, 9, and 10. One of the children also had to be flown from the scene while the other two were taken via ambulance. It’s unclear which vehicle the children were in at the time of the collision.
At this time, authorities are alleging that the driver of the Chevy pickup was intoxicated at the time of the crash. There appear to be four pending charges for intoxication assault. Authorities have not said if they believe drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
