Wharton County, TX — June 22, 2023, Derek Matthew Luna was injured as the result of a truck accident at around 9:30 a.m. along U.S. Highway 59.
Officials said that the crash took place along the southbound lanes of U.S. 59 at the intersection of County Road 454.
According to current statements, 21-year-old Derek Matthew Luna was in a Ford Mustang going southbound on the highway. Authorities say that a tractor-trailer also going southbound pulled right onto the shoulder, then turned left toward a crossover. Doing so, the tractor-trailer entered the path of Luna’s Mustang, and the vehicles collided.
Luna was said to have incapacitating injuries as a result of the accident. No other injuries were reported. It appears there were recommendations for the truck driver to be cited for turning when unsafe. This and other details cannot be confirmed pending further details.
