Columbia, SC — February 21, 2025, one person was injured following an alleged drunk driver accident at around 2:00 a.m. on Broad River Road.
Authorities said the incident happened northwest of Columbia at a Richland County Sheriff’s Office traffic stop.

According to officials, a deputy was outside on foot along with another person who was involved in the traffic stop. While they were there, it appears another driver slammed into the patrol vehicle, hitting both the deputy and the other individual.
Due to the collision, the person speaking to the deputy was taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries. The deputy was treated at the scene. Authorities allege that the driver who hit them was under the influence of alcohol. Right now, other details remain unconfirmed.

It wouldn’t be surprising if this series of events left a rather chaotic scene for authorities to deal with. Two different investigations, a crash scene to clear, and one person hospitalized is going to present all kinds of hurdles. On top of that, there could be an outside party involved since South Carolina has laws which say alcohol providers may be responsible for contributing to a crash if they unlawfully served the drunk driver. All of this makes me wonder if authorities are divvying up the investigations as needed to ensure they all get the attention they deserve. If someone was hurt due to the negligence of multiple wrongdoers, they shouldn’t be left wondering if they’re going to get the help they deserve.
