When accidents like this occur, it’s tempting to attribute them to a single moment of inattention or error. However, collisions involving large trucks—particularly those involving stationary vehicles—often involve a web of contributing factors that need careful scrutiny.

Why did the Freightliner fail to maintain its lane and collide with a truck stopped on the shoulder? Was the driver distracted, fatigued, or otherwise impaired? Could external factors like poor visibility, slick road conditions, or unexpected obstructions have played a role? Investigating these possibilities is critical to understanding what caused the crash.

The circumstances surrounding the Kenworth’s presence on the shoulder also warrant attention. Was it parked there due to an emergency or mechanical issue, or was it stopped for another reason? Stopping on the shoulder is inherently risky, particularly on high-speed roads, so investigators must determine whether appropriate precautions were taken, such as activating hazard lights or placing reflective markers.

Additionally, the role of the trucking companies cannot be ignored. Companies are responsible for ensuring their drivers are properly trained, rested, and capable of responding to unexpected situations safely. Were both the Freightliner and Kenworth drivers operating under safe conditions, or were they facing pressure to meet tight deadlines? Did either vehicle have mechanical issues that contributed to the crash? These questions could help identify whether issues such as insufficient oversight or lax maintenance standards might have contributed.

Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the accident. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain critical evidence, it’s essential to examine every factor to ensure those impacted by the incident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
