McLennan County, TX — June 20, 2024, Davie Havens and one other person were injured in a truck accident at approximately 6:00 a.m. along S.H. 6.
According to authorities, 19-year-old Davie Havens was traveling in a southbound Toyota Tacoma pickup truck on the S.H. 6 feeder road attempting to enter the on ramp in the vicinity northwest of Cherokee Trail when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a Ram pickup truck with a trailer in tow that was heading northbound on the feeder road failed to yield the right of way to traffic entering the onramp. This resulted in a near head-on collision between the Ram truck and the Tacoma.
Havens suffered reportedly serious injuries as a result of the wreck. A 24-year-old man who had been in the Ram sustained moderate injuries, as well, according to reports. They were taken to local medical facilities by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. No other injuries have been reported. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When people hear about crashes like this one, it’s easy for them to assume they are a result of simple driver error. However, in my experience, accidents involving vehicles towing trailers often require thorough investigations to understand all contributing factors.
In this incident, the circumstances leading to the crash are still under investigation. It’s essential to determine why the northbound Ram pickup truck with a trailer failed to yield the right of way to the southbound Tacoma pickup truck entering the on-ramp. Investigators should consider whether the trailer’s load might have contributed to the collision, either by affecting the Ram truck’s handling or by obstructing the driver’s view. Driver distraction, misjudgment of the speed and distance of other vehicles, or mechanical issues with either vehicle might also be factors.
If the Ram pickup was a commercial vehicle, there could be additional concerns regarding the responsibility of the company that owns it. Commercial entities have a duty to ensure their vehicles are properly maintained and their drivers are adequately trained. If the company failed to enforce safety protocols or ensure that the vehicle was in good working order, they could be held accountable for their role in the crash.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain vital evidence, it is crucial to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the crash receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
