Cameron County, TX — July 8, 2025, David Zapata was killed in an alleged drunk driver accident at about 5 p.m. on westbound Interstate 2.

Authorities said a 2010 Hino tow truck was on the shoulder securing a vehicle when it was hit by a white Dodge Ram pickup. The pickup did not stop after the crash east of F.M. 506, but it eventually was located nearby.

Tow truck driver David Zapata, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to authorities.

The Dodge driver has been charged with intoxication manslaughter after the collision, authorities said. He allegedly was under the influence of fentanyl at the time of the cash.
