Cooke County, TX — March 24, 2023, David McLearen and Andrea Shaw were killed due to a motorcycle accident which happened near Gainesville.
Authorities said that the crash took place at around 11:00 p.m. along FM 3092. Their statements say that 39-year-old David McLearen and 32-year-old Andrea Shaw were on a motorcycle going northbound along FM 3092. Due to reasons unconfirmed, the motorcycle lost control and crashed off-road.
Both McLearen and Shaw sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Reports did not mention anyone else involved in the accident. Investigations are ongoing.

My concern here is whether or not authorities are being thorough enough to consider all of the possible reasons something like this can happen without the driver being able to avoid it. To be clear, I can’t say what did or didn’t happen here, and driver error is obviously a possibility worth considering. But too often, I see people jump to conclusions when a victim is on a motorcyclist simply because they assume all riders are reckless. I know from experience that this is just an unfair bias, but it’s a bias that even authorities can let color their investigations. Hopefully authorities here are more prudent than that and can help to ensure the victims’ loved ones are getting the facts.
