Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

When accidents like this happen, it’s easy to assume they stem from simple misfortune or timing. However, in my experience, crashes involving large trucks and passenger vehicles are rarely straightforward, and they almost always require a thorough investigation to understand the underlying causes.

One of the critical issues that investigators must address is how the collision led to a vehicle fire, as that’s not a common outcome in every crash. Fires following a collision can sometimes indicate a mechanical problem, such as a faulty fuel system, or a manufacturing issue with how the vehicle handles impact. Part of a comprehensive investigation should be looking into whether this particular car had any design vulnerabilities that may have contributed to the fire, as well as whether the truck’s involvement contributed to an unusual risk of ignition.

It’s also essential to examine what actions both drivers took in the moments leading up to the collision. Investigators will likely consider if any sudden maneuvers, speed changes, or lane shifts by the truck may have impacted the passenger vehicle’s ability to avoid the collision. Additionally, looking into whether all lighting and reflective markers were properly functioning on the truck is critical to assessing visibility and reaction times for those driving nearby, especially at highway speeds.

Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the accident. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain critical evidence, it’s essential to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the accident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
