Smith County, TX — June 19, 2024, David Gunter was injured in a car accident at approximately 4:30 p.m. along Farm to Market 344.
According to authorities, 82-year-old David Gunter and a 75-year-old woman were traveling in a southbound Toyota Prius on F.M. 344 at a stop waiting for northbound traffic to clear in order to make a safe left turn onto C.R. 188 when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a southbound Chrysler Town & Country on F.M. 344 failed to appropriately control its speed, resulting in a collision between the front-end of the minivan and the rear-end of the Prius. The collision caused the Prius to be pushed forward and to the left, leading to a secondary collision with an oncoming northbound Honda Accord.
Gunter suffered suspected severe injuries as a result of the wreck; he was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. No other injuries have been reported. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
