Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When accidents like this occur, people often assume they result from simple driver error. However, based on my experience, crashes involving large trucks frequently have more complex causes that require a thorough investigation.
In this case, it’s crucial to examine why the 18-wheeler struck the parked sanitation truck. Factors such as driver distraction, fatigue, mechanical failure, or even the roadway environment could have played a role. A thorough investigation should look into whether the truck driver was adhering to all safety protocols and whether the vehicle was properly maintained.
If the 18-wheeler was operating under a commercial trucking company, it’s also important to consider the company’s role in ensuring safety. Companies are responsible for training their drivers, maintaining their vehicles, and scheduling routes that allow for adequate rest and adherence to safety regulations. Any shortcomings in these areas could suggest that the company shares responsibility for the incident.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain vital evidence, it is crucial to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the crash receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
